Chapter 3 Design-Time Component Reference



Display information about or generate links to other assets. You can use the

component to automatically find assets in a website that match a specified filename,

and generate links to them. This is useful if, for example, you want automatically

create links to stylesheets in different website sections without having to copy the

stylesheets into every folder in those sections.

How the Include Asset Component Works

The Include Asset component locates assets in one of the following ways:



From a relative path from the asset that contains the component, such as a master

page



If the component is on a master page, from a relative path from the asset to which

the master page is applied



Or by looking for any asset that matches a specified filename in the current deploy

folder, or any deploy folders above the current deploy folder

Once the component locates the asset to include, it either inserts the entire content of the

asset, or, if the component includes a body section, inserts whatever content is defined by

the body section. The body section might include property macros which display

information about the included asset, such as its filename or particular metadata value, or

it might define a reference to the included asset.

How to Insert an Include Asset Component

Follow the instructions below to insert an Include Asset component, either in Macromedia

Dreamweaver or manually using your own HTML editor.

Dreamweaver

To insert the Include Asset component in Dreamweaver:

In Dreamweaver, place the insertion point where you want to insert the component.

Click Window | Objects to display the Objects palette.

Select the

palette.

Click the

Include Asset

button. The Insert Include Asset dialog box appears.

Do one of the following:

From

Parameter

, choose

Findfile

File

, or

Relative

to determine how the

component should find the file. See "Include Asset Properties" on page 78 for

information on these options.

Click

Insert information about or link

to an asset
