Uploading Your Files to the Web
Before you begin uploading your files to your web space, you must first learn the
icons listed in the “Site” window that will help manage your files.
1. Connection Status:
Connect or disconnect from your space with this button. When you are
disconnected, it will appear as three disconnected dots.
2. Refresh:
Manually tell Dreamweaver to refresh the contents of a folder by clicking this
button. By clicking on either the “Local” or “Remote” side before clicking the
button, you can refresh either side.
3. View FTP Log:
View a complete log of all FTP transactions.
4. Site Files:
The default setting, this will show the actual “Remote Side” files.
5. Testing Server:
You can specify a “testing” server to upload files to in order to “test” your web
pages, before making them actually “live” on the regular, real server.
6. Site Map:
Another view mode, this will visually arrange the web pages in a hierarchical
manner.
7. Get Files:
This will upload the selected files to the remote server.
8. Put Files:
This will download the selected files from the remote server.
9. Check Out:
Used with the collaborative settings, this will place the selected file in your
name for local editing.
10. Check In:
Used with collaborative settings, this will place the file back on the server with
the updated changes and “cross-off” your name.
11. Expand/Collapse:
Switch back and forth between just a local view, or a view of both the remote
and local sides.
Now you can learn how to put your files online. To publish your website and its
related files to your RCI account, select all of the files you want to upload on the
right side of the screen, and click the "Put" icon. If you are asked "Include
Dependent files?," click "Yes." Dependent files are generally images.
