Running Telnet with “Run” Command

To get your account set up, we can use the RUN command to access Telnet.

1. From the Start menu in Windows, select Run (or open QV Term if it is on your machine

and then open polylog1.calpoly.edu). If you chose Run, you will see the following dialog

box. Type in exactly what is shown here in Figure 38: telnet polylog1.calpoly.edu

2. Click on the OK button.

3. A new Telnet session will begin. What you are doing here is connecting to polylog1.

You are no longer working on your local computer so you have to interact with polylog1

using UNIX commands. This means no point-and-click, no mouse movement; it is all

command driven (YUCK!).

4. A new connection window will appear as shown in Figure 39 below:
